One of my favourite books is Belonging by Jeannie Baker. This book is a wordless picture book with very powerful messages. The images in the books are textured three dimensional collages, so detailed as a reader you forget there are no words.
The story is told from the window of a young boy growing up in a city surrounded by concrete and graffiti. As years pass you see the slow but steady spread of plants and trees from their back year into the community. I find it empowering to see how one family conscious of the environment can spread their passion across a community and make it a better place for everyone.
I would recommend this book to any age student or adult. The longer you linger over the pages and the stunning images, the more fascinating the book becomes.
