At Newton International Academy Smash we are inspired by our founder’s vision to strive for excellence in everything we do celebrating success en-route. NIA Smash is a safe, vibrant and aspirational learning community in which students thrive. Key to this is brilliant teaching, first rate pastoral care, visible, approachable and dynamic leadership and a positive partnership with our parents. Working together, we can ensure the young people in our care flourish in education, work and life.
We are proud to deliver the British Curriculum from Early Years (Foundation 1) through Primary and Secondary phases culminating in students studying iGCSE, BTEC and A Level qualifications at Key Stage 4 and in our sixth form. We want each and every Smash student to feel valued as individuals and to achieve academic excellence. Moreover, we want to them to develop critical thinking skills and to become resilient and responsible citizens.
Most importantly our British curriculum is enhanced and enriched by the culture, faith and values of our beloved host nation, Qatar. NIA Smash has a wonderful, award winning Arabic and Islamic Studies department helping students grow in spiritual understanding and moral responsibility.
To achieve all of this, we work hard to foster a safe, supportive learning environment that promotes positive discipline and self-motivation.
Please contact us to come and see this in action for yourselves. Any one of the team will be happy to show you around.
“An international community of learners striving for excellence and celebrating success”.
Encouraging behaviours which encompass notions of originality, and problem-solving in all that we do.
Dear Parents,
It is indeed an honour to be the new Principal of Newton International Academy Smash. I bring some 35 years of experience as a teacher, Year leader, Key stage coordinator, Deputy Principal and Principal. I qualified at Glasgow University in the UK in 1991 and have worked for the Newton Group since 2009.
It is a privilege to lead a school which reflects the high aspirations and rich cultural values of Qatar. The vision of our esteemed founders, Dr Jaber Al Noaimi and Mrs Afaf Al Ma’adeed, to be, ‘a member of an international community that strives for excellence and celebrates success’ perfectly aligns with my own commitment to academic achievement, strong moral character and global citizenship.
I believe that genuine drive and enthusiasm are essential to inspire both pupils and colleagues, creating an engaging and dynamic learning environment. I strive to infuse a sense of humour into my interactions, recognising its power to build rapport and foster a positive atmosphere where creativity and learning can flourish. My approach is rooted in a commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, guided by evidence-based practices that foster student success.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that encompasses academic, social, emotional, moral and physical development. A curriculum which is designed to engage pupils in a variety of learning experiences, integrating core subjects with the arts, physical education, and life skills as well as education in morals and values. This balanced approach not only fosters well-rounded individuals but also promotes a sense of belonging and pride in our school community and host country. By connecting learning to real-world contexts, we prepare pupils to thrive in an increasingly interconnected global society. We also take great pride in promoting the Arabic language, Islamic faith and Qatar national identity. Through our excellent Arabic and Islamic studies departments, students grow in spiritual understanding, cultural appreciation and moral responsibility. They are not just subjects, but rather, the foundation of character and community.
Our school community believes that by cultivating a growth mindset among our pupils, staff and parents, we encourage the belief that intelligence, ability and performance can be developed and enhanced through dedication and hard work. By promoting resilience, perseverance, and a love of learning, we empower our pupils to embrace challenges, learn from feedback, and view setbacks as opportunities for growth.
Finally, we believe that parental involvement in our vision is crucial to pupil success. By actively engaging parents as partners in their children’s education, we create a supportive learning environment that extends beyond the classroom. We encourage open communication through regular updates, workshops, and feedback opportunities, ensuring that parents are informed and involved in their child’s learning journey, which not only enhances pupil motivation but also strengthens the school community.
I very much look forward to working closely with you.
