In the Early Years, we believe that children learn best through purposeful play and hands-on experiences. Our goal is to create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children feel happy, confident, and ready to explore the world around them. Through a play-based approach, children are encouraged to develop curiosity, independence, and a love of learning from the very beginning. Our dedicated and enthusiastic team of Early Years professionals are specially trained in supporting young children’s development and have a deep understanding of how they learn and develop. We place great importance on the personal, social, and emotional well-being of each child, and pride ourselves on the strong pastoral care we provide.

At our school, we follow the UK Early Years Foundation Stage framework which sets the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to age 5. Our aim is to provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can explore, play, create and start building the foundations for their future learning journey. The EYFS curriculum covers 7 areas of learning and development – Communication and Language, Physical Development, Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design. Through a mix of
adult-guided and child-initiated activities, we will support your child to make progress in all these important areas.

We believe that strong communication between home and school is very important for your child’s learning, happiness, and overall development. When parents and teachers work closely together, it helps children feel more confident and supported in their school journey. At Newton British Academy, we value building positive relationships with families and encourage regular communication. Whether it’s a quick chat at home time, a message, or a scheduled meeting, we are always happy to work together with you to support your child.

Areas of Learning and Development

There are six areas in which our Early Years Professionals support children to learn and develop. These are:

  • Creative Development
  • Physical Development
  • Social, Personal and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

In EYFS, we aim to teach the children through a range of engaging and exciting topics which captivates and enthuses the children. We use the children’s interests and ideas to help support and guide our planning, to ensure that their learning is child led and they are at the center of their learning. We pride ourselves on our rich, stimulating environment which supports early language development and on our classroom provisions which support and challenge the children to become independent learners, preparing the children for a successful transition to Year 1 and beyond.
