I’m always looking for books that do more than entertain – books that help children grow into thoughtful, empathetic people.
I recommended The Boy at the Back of the Class because it tells an important story through a child’s eyes: what it means to be new, to feel different, and to need kindness. The book gently explores big themes such as friendship, belonging, courage, and standing up for others – all in a way that is age-appropriate, engaging, and often surprisingly funny.
It also opens up meaningful classroom conversations:
How can we make someone feel welcome?
What does kindness look like in small, everyday choices?
How do we challenge unfairness respectfully and bravely?
Most importantly, it reminds us that our words and actions matter – and that every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and included.
A brilliant read for developing not only reading skills, but also character.
