World Mental Health Day – Bilateral Drawing Activity

October 15

Today, as part of our World Mental Health Day activities, we took time to focus on our wellbeing through a creative exercise called bilateral drawing.

“Bilateral” means “two sides,” and this activity involves using both hands at the same time to draw. By doing this, we engaged both sides of our brain — the logical and the creative — helping us to feel calm, balanced, and focused.

It didn’t matter what our drawings looked like; the aim was to relax, move our hands freely, and enjoy the process. The children really embraced it, creating swirls, patterns, and shapes while finding moments of calm and mindfulness.

It was a simple but powerful reminder that looking after our mental health can be fun, creative, and something we can do anytime we need to feel centred.
