Hi everyone! I’m Damira, Head Girl of Newton International Academy Barwa for the 2025-2026 academic year. I would first like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the school’s senior management team for placing their trust in me with this distinguished role.
Together with my respective head and deputy heads, we envision a dynamic and festive atmosphere at NIA this year. We hope to not only continue supporting the annual Senior Buddy Program, Anti-bullying, Cancer-Awareness, and other themed weeks, but launch novel initiatives that connect the school community together through niche, engaging and unique activities, such as the ‘A Plant for a Tutor Group’, which encourages cohesion while promoting Eco-schools and the Newton values of social responsibility and environmental awareness. Additionally, we plan to create more opportunities for students to explore themselves and their passions through the new ‘By students, for students’ events scheme, alongside the reintroduction of the InterNewton Science Fair and other large-scale, learning and community-based events.
We aim to fill in the gaps – in communication, student wellbeing or opportunities for growth – through impactful initiatives that foster a supportive and fulfilling learning environment. Ultimately, our goal is to create a school year where students genuinely feel happy and cared for in their day to day lives, knowing they are supported by us and the school.
This year we have a leadership body encompassing over 130 students, including the student council and the ample committees within, and it is truly my honor to continue to lead and represent the school during my seventh year at NIA.
